Interlaken is the best-known holiday resort in the Bernese Oberland and well visited all year round, almost fully booked in summer. As a holiday apartment management company, we let and manage apartments here on Airbnb, Booking.com and other platforms. Our staff are on the ground in Interlaken itself, and the laundry goes to our own laundry in Wimmis.

Demand in Interlaken: almost fully booked in summer
According to the federal hotel statistics, hotels in Interlaken recorded more than 880,000 overnight stays in 2025. Their rooms were 71 percent occupied on average, 90 to 92 percent from June to August. May, September and October are also high, at 77 to 86 percent. The months from November to March are quieter, at 48 to 56 percent.
For your holiday apartment, this means: the strong months carry the year, and in the quieter ones, price and visibility on the platforms decide whether the apartment gets booked. That is exactly where we come in, with continuously adjusted prices and well-maintained listings.
What owners in Interlaken need to know
Tourist tax
The municipality of Interlaken sets the tourist tax within its tourist tax regulations (in German), and the tourism organisation Interlaken collects it. On top of that comes the cantonal accommodation levy. As of October 2026:
Tourist tax in Interlaken | What applies |
|---|---|
Summer (1 April to 31 October) | CHF 2.50 per person and night |
Winter (1 November to 31 March) | CHF 2.20 per person and night, the summer rate from 1 April 2027 |
Children up to 16 | exempt |
Own use | Annual flat fee of CHF 100 per room |
Cantonal accommodation levy | CHF 1.00 per person and night from age 16, in addition to the tourist tax |
Registration | Anyone who lets has themselves entered in the municipality's register of accommodation providers |
The municipal council decided on 8 December 2025 to bring the winter rate into line. Matten and Unterseen have their own regulations. We take care of the settlement and the registration of stays for you.
Rules for holiday apartments
Interlaken has a share of second homes of around 15 percent, according to the housing inventory of the Federal Office for Spatial Development. The Second Homes Act therefore does not apply here. Instead, the municipality has its own rules:
Since March 2021, short-term tourist lets of fewer than three consecutive nights have been prohibited in the residential zone, and in the mixed zones a primary residence share of 25 or 50 percent applies.
On 11 March 2026, the municipal council issued a planning zone for the residential, mixed and core zones. For two years, this allows it to suspend building permit procedures, for example for converting primary residences into second homes, while it works out further rules for lets via online platforms.
Before you start letting an apartment in Interlaken to holiday guests, it is therefore worth taking a close look at the zone and the permit. We clarify this with you in our location review.
